Agonics executes network wide mobile laser scanning (MLS) projects across iconic railway networks including ARTC, Metro Trains, V/Line, TasRail and Sydney Trains

Railway networks looking to generate deep insights on railway infrastructure routinely seek out Agonics for its expertise in capturing and analysing very large LiDAR datasets at scale. The need to ‘Move the Dial’ on traditional methods of infrastructure measurement and reduce time spent in the ‘danger zone’ demands a rigorous approach to LiDAR capture, processing and analysis that can only come from decades of experience working on both domestic and international railway networks.

“We are impressed by the technology that Riegl delivers and routinely use Riegl systems because they perform very well in the tough railway environment’. - Mark Merida, Director Projects and Technology

Importantly, the ability to work at scale using robust, quality assured workflows has seen Agonics execute network wide mobile laser scanning (MLS) projects across iconic railway networks including ARTC, Metro Trains, V/Line, TasRail and Sydney Trains. For ARTC Agonics has recorded and processed dense MLS data across 9,000 km of interstate freight network with no data loss. The resulting digital information datasets support downstream investments in critical asset management and train control systems that rely on accurate, quality assured information. For Sydney Trains, Agonics has successful proved that MLS data can be used to replicate thousands of manual measurements that are taken in situ each year, thus improving the safety profile of routine inspections and optimising maintenance resources. For V/Line Agonics has created a comprehensive digital inventory of track side assets, while preserving legacy asset information so that corporate systems could operate effectively.

At the core of everything that Agonics does is a singular focus on data quality. This focus commences with project planning and technology selection and continues through to final report delivery. According to Mark Merida, Director Projects and Technology, the high-quality MLS systems that Riegl offers have underpinned many of these iconic projects. “We are impressed by the technology that Riegl delivers and routinely use Riegl systems because they perform very well in the tough railway environment’.
